Mechanical Contractors discuss adopting Workforce Management Software

In partnership with SMACNA, we had a great discussion with a panel mechanical contractors on “Better Labor Productivity through Workforce Management”.

The panelists included Kevin Michel, President at Xcel Mechanical Systems, Inc., Doug Hattan, Construction Field Manager at Quality Air Heating & Cooling Inc. and Kyle Livingston, Field Operations Manager at Harrell-Fish Inc.

Why did you adopt Workforce Management software to help run your business?

Kevin: “I knew that we weren’t as efficient as we could be with scheduling manpower. I knew that we could become more profitable as a company with Workforce Management. We never had any Workforce Management software. It was done in spreadsheets so after seing how RIVET worked, it was a no brainer. I was sold immediately on it. It’s a single source for manpower and personnel information. Before we were doing everything on spreadsheets and looking at our ERP for our budgets and we were getting with HR and a CVS insta card and all of our information in different locations, and I wanted a single source. (RIVET) has really streamlined how we’re doing our Workforce Management.”

Doug: “At Quality Air, when I took this position two years ago, I sat in our weekly scheduling meetings and thought to myself, ‘we have got to get better at this.’ I started down the hunt to find a scheduling software and we stumbled upon RIVET. Not only does it help us with our scheduling, but now we can also forecast, request manpower and delegate manpower and then also have all of our contact cards for all of our employees in one area. We no longer have to go to the file cabinet or rolodex. We only wish we had spreadsheets a couple of years ago to know where our guys were all at but now with RIVET we are on queue with going to the 21st century.”

Kyle: “My family has a long history with HFI. My grandfather held the role that I hold, and he used a white magnet board and then my father held the role and he used an Excel sheet. So as we looked to grow and looked to advance when I stepped into the role I said, ‘guys, let’s keep advancing this thing past the whiteboard and excel sheet,’ so here we are today with (RIVET). We knew we needed to streamline, we knew we needed to get better and we were growing rapidly. It’s fun to see new technology and new generations as things change.”
