Rostering is the foundation for a sustainable training program

The right software can give you the ability to house your entire Roster in one place allowing for sustainable training programs.

Listen Now: Brian & Gary from RIVET break down Rostering

We’re on Pillar 2 of the Workforce Management Business Practice. If you’re short on labor, but also behind on maintaining your workforce Roster in a software platform, you’re not set up for success in your field operations. Brian and Gary guide MEP and Self Perform contractors on a successful foundation for Rostering.

Yes, the labor shortage among the skilled trades exists, but we believe you can overcome it with better workforce management. One foundation is having a well-maintained Roster in a software platform where operations teams can access all the things that make their people unique, including certifications, trainings and location.

Once you have an integrated Roster in a software platform, you can identify gaps in training across your workforce. When you have a consistent method of tracking the lack of training, you have the opportunity to develop a sustained training program.

A tool fit to the task

The ability to have a sustainable training program is difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. Most contractors have certifications living in one spreadsheet, a list of people in another sheet and the schedulers in another sheet with a different list of people.

If you have a scheduling spreadsheet with worker names color coded by job title, how deep can you actually drill down to see what makes them unique? Specifically, can you see their skill sets, address, phone number and other info that helps you manage your labor force? Sure, you could put a comment in a cell on the spreadsheet to get more information, but that’s not tied to anything. Nothing is interactive.

”Imagine everyone of your employees, from temp workers to foreman and operations leaders, have a baseball card with all of their stats, strengths, potential weaknesses and areas of opportunities, all living in one place,” said Brian Witt, RIVET’s VP of Customer Success. “These are things you see in a tool like RIVET. The baseball cards are a resumé you continuously build for your people through their various experiences. Maintaining this tool can help identify not only who’s truly on an accountant’s radar, but also on operation’s radar, and keep all of those areas of the business on the same sheet of music.”
