WFM Weekly: ELECTRI Contractors Discuss Labor Productivity and Planning

ELECTRI Council discusses Labor Productivity and Labor Planning

This week we shared our findings that Productivity loss can be visualized through Labor Planning with the ELECTRI Council. By having a Labor Plan (below) for every job, contractors can see when they’re losing money.

Subsequently, Labor Plans can be aggregated to show company-wide labor demand.

During the session, the audience was polled about what priority Labor Plans have at their organizations. The answers covered a broad range, with roughly a third reporting that they aren’t consistent enough.

Contractors industry-wide struggle with planning labor. At RIVET, we believe having a Workforce Management business practice improves Labor Productivity. This session’s attendees agree.

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” one contractor said. “The further out you can help your staff see, the more accountable they can be to themselves, and, ultimately, their team and customer.”

Having a Labor Plan means contractors can schedule for an entire year, giving them predictable levels of work. Labor Planning also keeps projects on budget and, in turn, results in happier customers.

We’re eager to open this discussion to all self-performing contractors:

  • What does a Labor Plan mean to you?
  • How important is this problem?
  • What methods do you use today?
